Final Project
2D Final Project: Package
Design
Step 1: Identify the product (package) you will be
using for the project. You may choose any existing product you want or
brainstorm a new product. However, the
label/design must be new. You will be required to design or redesign at
least 2 sides of a package/label.
Step 2: Google an image of the existing package
design and save it to your computer for reference. (If applicable)
Step 3: Take a blank piece of paper and sketch out
your new design. Think about the shape
of your package/label. Be detailed and
specific with color choices, font choices, size, scale, textures, etc. Use the colored pencils to enhance your
drawing. Consider design concepts we
have discussed in class for your design. Remember, the better your draft is,
the more likely the graphics you design in Photoshop will be more refined and
accurate.
Step 4: Recreate your drawing/design of your new
package/label in Photoshop. What does the front, sides, back, top, etc.
look like? (You do not need to recreate
the actual package, just the design/label of two sides) You must have a detailed design for at least 2 sides. BE
CREATIVE. Why will people want to by
your product based on the packaging?
Step 5: Now, in a word document, compose a short
explanation of your project. See the
example below: *Put your name on your
word document*
Topic Sentence: Explain why
you chose this specific product and why you decided to change the packaging or
why you decided to create this packaging.
Body of Paragraph: Explain, in paragraph form, what your design
looks like and how it differs from the original design. This is simply a narrative of your drawing. Include colors, size of label, images, etc.
Closing Sentence: Explain
how your package design is better than the previous design if it is a re-design
OR explain why your new design is successful.
After you have proof read and spell checked your document,
save and print for it to be submitted when your project is complete.
Step 6: Turing in
your project:
1.
Drop your Photoshop file of your design into
dropbox on Cole.
2.
Hand in your drawn design and word document
to Ms. Duffy.

Typography 3/18-3/28
On Tuesday March 18th Poster Designs were DUE.
The second half of class we began our Typography Unit. We began with a Typography PowerPoint which is located on Cole under "Files/Links".
As a trial typography design project we as a class used a clownfish image. We used words and we rotated them, changed fonts, changed sizes, changed colors, and used kerning and leading in addition to other design tools to fit words inside the image of the fish. We would then take away the image of the fish and would be left with the fish made of words. The words MUST define the space of the fish. Students must complete this task before moving on to their final image of their choice. The only stipulation is that the image must be a human or animal, but they may choose any human or any animal.

End of Tuesday 2/25-Thursday 2/27
Students will be learning a few new tools in Photoshop that they will be applying to their next project.
Students will learn about:
Students will prove to me that they know how to do this by completing the check list I will give them in class. When the check list is complete they may begin working on their next project: Tour/Band Poster Designs.
Students will learn about:
- Filters
- How to manipulate the filters
- How to change and images' colors or change into a black and white photo
- How to use the pen tool
- How to type along a specific line using the pen tool
- How to manipulate text to make it into shapes.

Thursday 2/12 & Wednesday 2/19
Thursday 2/13- Tuesday 2/25 students will continue on with their logo designs.
Each student will need to complete the worksheet given to them last class and complete 3 thumbnail sketches of what their design will/could look like. (Worksheet can be found on Cole under Files/Links)
Students will have a minimum of 2 class periods to finish this project. If a third day is needed, we will extend the deadline.
Designs must be check on Thursday 2/13
If you have a hand drawn design you want SCANNED into your computer, that also must be complete by the end of Thursday class.
Logos will be due on Tuesday 2/25

- Once the worksheet is complete along with the sketches, students must show me their designs to have them OK'ed.

Tuesday 2/11
Today, as a class, we created a small radio station logo just to review a few tools and tricks to creating a logo. At the end of class, students began brainstorming what they want to create for their logo design. We didn't get very far in the process, so next class students will begin designing in their folders and then beginning their logo designs in photoshop.

Wednesday 2/5 & Friday 2/7
Both of these days were all class tutorial days. As a class we went through all the tools in the tool box and then began applying these tools to the beginning of a logo design. Fridays class was dedicated to the start of this logo design by learning how to blend two backgrounds together as well as how to make your Text look more professional and interesting.
Next class we will design a small logo design for a radio station, partially together and then finishing by themselves. After that, students will begin brainstorming a company that want to design a logo for.

Hi Students- I apologize that I am not there today. There was an emergency this morning and I couldn't make it to school.
Today, I am going to have you all do a photoshop tutorial that is online. When you are finished, drop it into the DropBox on Cole. Do your best, if you have questions, remember your problem solving skills: ask a neighbor or ask google! (link below)
If you are done early, play around with photoshop, if you haven't finished your Elements and Principles powerpoint, now would be a good time to finish or find something PRODUCTIVE to do!

Day 3- 1/28/14
Today students started out their day with their first ARTiFact! All ARTiFacts should be written down in the students folder. I will post the first one below!
After we finished the ARTiFact, we took a quick look at Cole again, located Blogger as learned how to submit assignments to Cole.
For the remaindered of today, students should be working on their own Elements & Principles Powerpoint. They are due at the end of the period and must be dropped into the "Elements and Principles Dropbox" on Cole.

Welcome to 2D Design!
Day 1- As a class we discussed expectations and rules and then we jumped right into exploring Photoshop. If you missed this, all expectations and rules are listed in Cole 3.0 under "files/links" under "First day info sheet". Check it out if you are new to class!
Day 2- We began our Elements and Principles of ART unit. Students took notes and each student began working on their own Powerpoint using the definitions I gave them but pick out new pictures that relate to design to show their understanding of each element and principle. The powerpoint shown can be found in Cole 3.0 under "files/links" "Elements and Principles PP" The directions for the assignment are listed in that section as well. Students will have a day and a half to complete this assignment. It will be turned in via Cole and we will practice that as a class together next class period.
